After Maria graduated as a nurse in Europe, she promised herself that one day she would do something to improve the health of her community back home in Angola. Her passions are eHealth and wound care and she is the Founder/CEO of eWoundHelp, an organization that offers e-learning courses to African health workers with the most current, accurate and evidence-based information about treating wounds. She was chosen to be on WHO’s Digital Health Roster of Experts, where she is determined to use her knowledge to help more African countries use technology so that healthcare can be accessible to people living at the bottom of the pyramid.

Maria holds a bachelor’s degree in Science in Nursing. She is a Wound Care Certified Reference Nurse and is now enrolled in a Masters in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair at Cardiff University. She has always been interested in entrepreneurship: in 2010 she was a semi-finalist for the Sukuma Africa Young Entrepreneurs Competition, and in 2015 she was a semi-finalist for African Entrepreneurship Awards. She was also a volunteer writer for RisingAfrica.org, where she promoted and shared successful stories of Africans and Afro-Americans Entrepreneurs. She has mentored African students to help them get scholarships overseas. She was a volunteer for UN Empower Women in 2016-2017, where she worked with Angolan and Congolese women teaching them financial literacy. In 2018 she became an African Changemaker Fellow. Maria is a member of The International Society for Telemedicine, eHealth and Telenursing Working Group and also a member of the World Health Organisation Roster of Experts on Digital Health.
