Dr. Azucena Santillan is a registered nurse working in Spanish public health system (SACYL), with more than twenty years of experience in innovation, science, public policy, health, and human capital. Dr. Santillan is part of the group of scientists that has tirelessly worked for the establishment of a Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology in Spain. She is also part of “Ciencia en el Parlamento,” working as a scientific advisor in the Spanish Parliament. Dr. Santillan is a proud nurse who has shown society and politicians across the world that nurses are also scientists. Today, Santillan is a collaborating professor at Universidad Europea and Salusplay where she teaches at a postgraduate level about the methodology of investigation and nursing based on evidence. Due to her passion for scientific research, she created an evidence-based nursing blog called “Enfermería basada en evidencia” (Nursing based on evidence), where she has been spreading nursing research for ten years focusing on Latin America. Dr. Santillan is a professional leader who is dedicating her time to the improvement of the nursing profession, through the dissemination of evidence-based practices and the development of policy influence
