Delkontee King is a nurse and midwife developed a family planning initiative in Monrovia, Liberia. Her initiative conducts community-based family planning education and well as home-based health services.
Delkontee is both a nurse and a midwife. She completed her midwifery degree in 2000 and her nursing degree in 2010. Delkontee is a Community Hero because of her tireless passion for supporting women’s health. Since 2013, she has operated a family planning initiative with Nursing for All in two communities in Liberia. Delkontee visits the community several times per week to educate adolescents about the family planning options available to them and to offer family planning services, primarily Depo-Provera. Delkontee also works as a nurse at a major Emergency Department in Liberia and has done so for the past ten years, including throughout the Ebola crisis. Delkontee knew the risks, but she refused to abandon her post. She worked tirelessly throughout the epidemic to care for her fellow Liberians until a family member’s untimely death from Ebola meant Delkontee herself was required to enter quarantine.
