Viviane Mukakarara serves as the Training and Compliance Director at One Family Health, a social innovation in health initiative increasing access to primary healthcare for people in rural Rwanda. In this role, and in addition to her highly impactful nurse training programmes, Viviane has worked tirelessly to ensure continuous development in the quality of care provided in Rwanda and the adoption of international standards for healthcare. Prior to this, Viviane worked as a training Specialist for Chemonics’s Rwanda Family Health Project, gaining experience in clinical training and mentorship for maternal health, child health and reproductive health. She possesses over 15 years of experience in the development and implementation of Family Planning and Maternal Child Health programmes, serving as the Family Planning and Maternal Child Health Coordinator for IntraHealth’s HIV/AIDS Clinical Services across 4 IntraHealth supported Districts from 2010 to 2012. Further to her above roles, Viviane has a wealth of experience as both a trainer of trainers and practicing nurse. When COVID-19 struck in 2020, Viviane found herself suddenly unable to meet the nurses and colleagues in her organization and beyond. Maintaining constant communication by phone, she set to educating those in her rural network to ensure that infection prevention standards were clear and upheld, and that medical professionals on the front lines were armed with everything they could be to fight the virus and prevent its spread. A strong advocate for the provision and use of PPE to prevent contamination, Viviane also worked closely with her colleagues to mobilize PPE and ensure that these reached understocked clinics in time.
